Colorado Children’s Chorale
462 Main St
Ouray, CO 81427
We are excited to welcome the renowned Colorado Children’s Chorale back to Ouray County on April 24, 2017! The Chorale will present in-school workshops and shows for elementary students in both Ouray and Ridgway, followed by a community concert at the Wright Opera House in Ouray that evening.
Under the leadership of Artistic Director Deborah DeSantis and Executive Director Meg Steitz, the Colorado Children’s Chorale annually trains 500 members between the ages of 7 and 14 from all ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds representing more than 180 schools in the Denver metro area and beyond.
With a diverse repertoire ranging from fully staged opera and musical theater to standard choral compositions in classical, folk and popular traditions, the Chorale performs with an innovative stage presentation and infectious panache.
In addition to their regular performance schedule, a select group of 40 or so Chorale kids frequently travel around the state to offer the program we are bringing to Ouray County.
The in-school workshops, designed for 2nd through 5th graders, will allow students to explore all aspects of performance, including singing, dancing, acting and stage movement by emphasizing poise and self-confidence, giving our local kids a feeling for their individual capabilities and potential.
Students will then be engaged and inspired with a 45-minute concert designed especially for elementary audiences, in which they will be exposed to a wide range of musical styles, all in an atmosphere of fun and collaboration.
The Chorale will bring the house down at their evening performance at the Wright Opera House that night, combining their infectious enthusiasm and powerful performing energy of with lots of audience participation to create an unforgettable experience. Our local students will be invited to join in the fun, getting up on stage to perform what they learned earlier in the day, alongside the Chorale.
The last time the Colorado Children’s Chorale visited Ouray County was in 2012. It was a truly delightful experience for all involved, and we are so excited at the prospect of bringing them back again to work with a whole new group of students!
