Pianist Kara Huber is back by popular demand at the Wright Opera House for an encore solo piano concert on Saturday, September 8, bringing the Ouray County Performing Arts Guild’s third annual Dave and Mary Wood Classical Concert Series to a spectacular conclusion. This concert will feature not only many pieces by American composers, it will also include a specially commissioned piece performed for the very first time from American composer Andy Villemez titled “CH,CO,US”. About Dave & Mary Wood
Dave Wood and his wife Mary lived for many years in their home community of Ouray. They loved the arts, especially classical music and opera.
When the community first thought of a summer classical music series and established Ouray Performing Arts Guild, the Woods were there to help finance and host musicians playing in the concerts. They were true friends of the performing arts. The Woods were also historians at heart, assisting with the restoration of the Wright Opera House and supporting efforts of the Ouray County Historical Society. To ensure their dream, they established the Dave and Mary Wood Fund with the Western Colorado Community Foundation. Their three children serve as donor advisors. By putting aside funds today to care for organizations that need support in the future, the Woods are doing their part to preserve Ouray as the unique mountain community that it is and the home that they dearly loved.
OCPAG is grateful for the Woods’ enduring legacy in our community, and for the generous underwriting from the Dave and Mary Wood Fund and Western Colorado Community Foundation that has made this series possible.
