Scholarships

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MAY 1, 2017

The Ouray County Performing Arts Guild is pleased to offer scholarships to nurture performing arts skills in young individuals in our community, leading to a lifelong interest in the performing arts – either as a professional performer, or as an avocation while pursuing an unrelated career.

We offer two categories of scholarships. The first category is for graduating high school seniors and those already enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning. The second category is for middle and high school students, with a grant component for community organizations supporting students of the performing arts.

Scholarship amounts vary from year to year and also depend on the number of applications we receive. In the past, graduating seniors of exceptional merit have received scholarships in the range of $1,000 to $2,000, while middle and high school applicants have received up to $500 to help them pursue enrichment activities in the performing arts.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

A) Graduating high school seniors and those already enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning leading to an Associate, Bachelors, or Graduate degree.

  1. Applicants may apply for scholarship funds to improve, augment, or develop new skills in traditional and emerging performing arts. Preference will be given to applicants pursuing theater, dance, and vocal and instrumental music of all genres. Consideration will also be given to fields related to the performing arts, such as filmmaking, audio engineering, playwriting and screenwriting, performance poetry, etc.
  2. Applicants’ scholastic standing and participation in extracurricular activities related to the performing arts will be considered positively, but will not be an overriding consideration in awarding scholarships.

B)  Middle school and high school students.
